Are you still paying for it? Media that is.

If so, I salute you for maintaining your marketing budget in a tough economic climate. TV, radio and other broadcast advertising channels can all be effective components of any marketing strategy. However, these paid media channels are no longer as dependably effective they once were, specifically with more savvy, informed consumers. For many advertisers, broadcast channels were never affordable in the first place.

Enter “Earned Media”…

In a world where one well-placed Yelp can set thousands a-Twitter — it literally pays to develop a well-thought-out earned media strategy and the resources to execute it.

Curious? That’s a good start.


In this open-discussion, we'll be talking about various facets of earning media online using social networks, blog outreach and organic/local search. My hope is that everyone will both bring and take away some valuable insight that they can take home and use.

This discussion will include practical, real world examples for small, medium and large businesses. Jeff Rohwer will be leading this discussion. He is an interactive marketing strategist and consultant with over 10 years of experience in designing, developing and deploying strategic, technical solutions for a wide range of industries including health care and hospitality.

Our first meetup will be a casual BBQ hosted by CitrusByte, a custom web development agency that works with everyone from forward-thinking startups to the big guys like AOL and Fox Interactive. As per their request, there will be no CitrusByte sales pitch or slotted speaking time, but I suggest that you check them out before attending.

The location is a 4000 sq ft mini-mansion in Sherman Oaks - just look for the biggest house on the block.

1:00 - 1:45 - networking BBQ (and drinks, of course)
1:45 - 2:00 - individual introductions by members
2:00 - 2:30 - "How Do You Measure Success on the Web?" discussion lead by William Fernandez
2:30 - 3:00 - open networking

The introductions and discussions will take place inside and the BBQ will continue in the back yard, for those that would rather remain engaged in their individual conversations. (or just want to stay close to the wine)
